Cult project from folklore myths north Russian city Archangelsk always was about his name as one of the most misterious and unexpectful musical formations. The count of albums coming to  10 with variable easy playing with such genres as ritual industrial, dark ambient, IDM,
electronic neo-folk, and by the meantime keeping really own style, charme and pretty cinic sense of humour.
The last album, which we have here, differs by pretty courage combination of last modern audio-technologies with variety of live instruments and north folklore (Russian and Nents)  singing.
Album recorded with many guests involved, among them folk-singer Ekaterina Zorina, as well as Count Ash – the leader of MOON FAR AWAY.

[Celtic Folk] Solas – The Turning Tide (2010)

Since its birth in 1996, Solas has been loudly proclaimed as the most popular, influential, and exciting Celtic band to ever emerge from the United States. Even before the release of its first Shanachie CD, the Boston Herald trumpeted the quartet as “the first truly great Irish band to arise from America,” and the Irish Echo ranked Solas among the “most exciting bands anywhere in the world.” Since then, the praise has only grown louder. The Philadelphia Inquirer said they make “mind-blowing Irish folk music, maybe the world’s best.” The New York Times praised their “unbridled vitality“, the Washington Post dubbed them one of the “world’s finest Celtic-folk ensembles” and the Austin American-Statesman called them “the standard by which contemporary Celtic groups are judged.”

Solas is virtually unique in the new territory it has opened up for Celtic music. It has performed at all the major Celtic and folk festivals, including Philadelphia, Edmonton, the legendary National Folk Festival, and Milwaukee’s Irish fest; but also at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and the chamber music summer series…

[Senegal Folk] Ablaye Cissoko & Volker Goetze – Sira (2008)

The mutual admiration society that is Ablaye Cissoko and Volker Goetze owes itself to a serendipitous meeting that took place in 2001 at the African-European Jazz Orchestra rehearsals in Saint-Louis, Senegal, where they’d been invited to open for Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour. Despite any cultural barriers that separated them, the Senegalese singer/kora player and German-born trumpeter discovered they had much in common, both musically and personally. Their commonalities can be heard on Sira, which is an album that reaffirms the maxim that music is the universal language. The album released in October 2008 to great critical acclaim and hit 2 on the CMJ World Music Chart.

Their willingness to absorb new ideas attracted the two artists to each other. Although Cissoko is well-versed in the traditional music of West Africa, passed along from generation to generation, he has always been a seeker, keeping his ears open for new experiences. His immersion in jazz, and Goetze’s fascination with African music, made them natural candidates for collaboration.

Some, like baseball star Carlos Delgado, the Toronto Blue Jays slugger, mark their disapproval of the US occupation of Iraq by refusing to stand up for the playing of « God Bless America » at the start of games. Others, like Michael Moore, splash their outrage all over book pages and silver screens, and get Cannes’ Golden Palm for their efforts.
Still others, like Turkish vocalist Melike Tarhan, plunge into their past to seek historic parallels to the US-led invasion. The gifted musician, finds parallels between the American-led attack of Iraq and the Canakkale war fought out in the Gallipoli Peninsula that left over 500,000 people dead in 1915. This ignominious and bloody conflict between the tottering Ottoman and British empires is yet another example, says young Melike, of « mankind wanting to rule over life and death by power ‘gained’ by means of wars ». Not surprisingly, the new star of Turkish traditional music dedicates this first international album to the child victims of the US invasion.
